It’s a new year …

In the US, we have many different “years”: school years, fiscal years for businesses, and perhaps the most well-known is New Year’s. Messianics, however, have another new year.

Last week, we celebrated having completed reading through the entire Torah in one year. We rejoiced in His Torah! And this week, we  begin the Yom Kippur - Torah and shofarpamelareading cycle again with the book of Genesis. This is a practice which is believed to have been begun by the scribe & priest Ezra, who lived in Babylon during the 4th century BC. Ezra established the systematic reading of the first 5 books of the Torah. This tradition continued through prophets, our Messiah and His disciples, and even continues today.

Often people assume that it would be boring to read the same 5 books every year. On the contrary, God gives new insights and understanding each year as our lives and circumstances change. Consequently, the readings become richer and richer.

My encouragement to you is: if you fell behind in your reading last year, make a commitment to start fresh this year, this week. Be determined to not let a week pass without reading. Allow God to give you fresh ‘manna’ each week from His Word. … He is waiting!

CONSIDER: In Matt 4:4, Yeshua quoted the Torah, when He stated “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God,’” (Deut 8:3: “He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD,” Deut 8:3, NASB.)

PRAYER:

“Father, thank You for these amazing holy day times we’ve spent with You!!! You have met us in incredible ways – thank You!!! Help us each to be faithful to study and read Your Word each day. Help Your Word to take hold in our hearts – to transform us. Heal our nation. Bring Your divine peace to Israel. We pray for our pastors and those who are in leadership. Bless and protect our servicemen. In Yeshua’s holy Name, we pray. ”
