Are we getting ready to see our Walls of Jericho fall?

By Les’a Cole

The month of Elul begins tomorrow, Sunday, August 12, 2018.

A wonderful acronym often associated with Elul (אֱלוּל) is “I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine,” Song of Songs 6:3. (אֲנִי לְדֹודִי וְדֹודִי לִי ).

Traditionally, the month of Elul is a month of Teshuva (תְּשׁוּבָה): a time of repenting and turning more fully to God. Often the story of the prodigal son is associated with this period & how he repented and drew near to his father. Even as we are our Heavenly Father’s children, whom He loves very much, we all have areas in our lives in which He wants to draw us into a more holy walk with Him.

When we have a special guest come to our home, there is much preparation. Yes, we want things to be very good.  Our desire to bless our guest whether it is with the food we’ve selected or other things. We’ve prepared! In the same way, our heavenly Father wants us to be prepared for our appointed times with Him during His festivals.

As I mentioned last week, I believe God is asking each of us to reflect on the things in our lives which He wants to change. What are we willing to give up something for more initimacy with Him? Could be a no-pleasant bread fast or no TV or refraining from an unpleasing attitude. In past years, many of us have abstained from sugar and gluten. What one abstains from is not important. What is important, is the denying of ourselves.

The timing of this Jericho March of spiritually marching around those walls that are holding others captive is very important. Those around us, our nation, the persecuted church, and Israel all desperately need break-throughs.

Just yesterday afternoon, someone unexpectedly came over and wanted prayer: the husband had been laid off two months ago. A neighbor’s husband, received a grim diagnosis. People around us NEED our prayers … our intercession. This Jericho March fast is a great beginning. Let’s join together during these 40 days and ask Him begin with changing us and also to change the circumstances of these others.

Tomorrow, we begin our annual Jericho March fast. Every year, we see amazing mriacles from His hand during these days!! Are we willing to give up something that we enjoy for Israel’s safety, for our nation’s repentance, for protection for the persecuted church, for our loved ones to receive break-throughs?

I encourage you to jot down what you’re giving up and what you’re wanting to see God do. (If you want, tell me or text me what you’re giving up & for what you’re praying. And I’ll pray specifically for you. We are going to see Him move and the walls around Jericho are going to fall!!!)

He promises:

  • “For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst,” Matt 18:20.
  • “Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.,” John 14:13.

Prayer:

“Hallelujah, precious Father, Your season of Teshuva begins tomorrow. Help us to draw close to you during this season. Help us to deny ourselves that we might more clearly see Your face. We bless You! Protect Israel, heal our land, bless each of those who chooses to join us in this period of denying ourselves. In the holy Name of our King and Messiah, we pray.”
