Intense Prayer for Israel – Tuesday, Sept 20!

Prayer Focusweek 14 (Sunday-Shabbat)

FOCUS: Intense Prayer for Israel (UN decision)
God, our God, gave the land of Israel to the Jews as their birthright. As much as our family loves Israel with all of our hearts, HE did not give Israel to us, but to the Jews.
Isn’t it ironic that during this season of Tshuvah that the world would choose to come against Israel – during the season of GOD’s Holy Days!
“In short…Israel’s fight is our fight. And so shall it be until the last terrorist on earth is in a cell or a cemetery.” Tom DeLay.
The Palestinians have set September 20, Tuesday, as the day on which they will ask the United Nations for membership. As for what comes the day after that, no one knows for sure. An Israeli legal expert has predicted chaos. “There are huge legal consequences of establishment of a state which I cannot overstress,” says Daniel Reisner, a longtime peace negotiator for Israel as well as former head of international law for the Israel military.  “All of the legal documents we ever signed with the Palestinians [will be] kaput.”  These cover water, finances, electricity, the daily transit of Palestinian workers in and out of Israel – the basic mechanics of civil administration for the generation since the Oslo Accords. “There’s a huge potential for legal chaos,” he says (CNN, August 16).
The Palestinian Authority’s top diplomatic envoy to the United States, Maen Rashid Areikat, said this week that the new Palestinian state has no place for Jews. Asked by US reporters about his vision for the new nation he said, “I think it will be in the best interests of the two peoples to be separated first.
The bottom line is this…while a Security Council veto could deny the Palestinians official member status, they can also seek upgraded observer status at the General Assembly as a non-member state.

This could be interpreted as implicit UN recognition of Palestinian statehood because the assembly would be acknowledging that the Palestinians control an actual state. This would require only a simple majority of the General Assembly. Since around 120 countries have already recognized the state of Palestine to date, it would likely win such a vote overwhelmingly.
