Who does God say we are?
(Do you ever wonder if you are really significant?)
Life is getting crazy … right? Ever wonder if you really make a different? You may contemplate, ‘What if I weren’t here would anyone even notice?’ No pep talk will answer those soul-wrenching questions. Only our Creator can. Let’s look at what He says about who we are.
Truthful Labels about who God says we are!
I am a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
I am forgiven (Ephesians 1:7-8)
“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding,”
I am gifted with power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7)
“For the Spirit [that] God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline [or sound mind].”
I am chosen to be fruitful (John 15:16)
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit – fruit that will last – and so that whatever you ask in My name the Father will give you.”
I am complete (Colossians 2:9-10)
“For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.”
I am secure (Romans 8:31-39)
“31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all — how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died — more than that, who was raised to life — is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
36 As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
I am confident (Philippians 1:6)
“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work you will carry it on to completion until the day Christ Jesus.”
I am free (Romans 6:18, 8:1)
“You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.” Romans 6:18
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1
I am capable (Philippians 4:13)
“I can do all this [things] through Him who gives me strength.”
I am spiritually alive (Ephesians 2:5)
“[You] made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved.”
I am God’s workmanship (Ephesians 2:10)
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
I am welcome in God’s presence (Ephesians 2:18; Hebrews 4:14-16)
“For through Him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.” Ephesians 2:18
“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet He did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:14-16
I am sheltered & protected in God (Colossians 3:3)
“For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. “
I am a member of God’s family (1 John 3:1-2; Ephesians 2:19)
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” 1 John 3:1-2
“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of His household.” Ephesians 2:19
I am God’s treasure (1 Peter 2:9-10)
”But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”
I am dearly loved (Colossians 3:12)
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
I am being transformed (2 Corinthians 3:18)
“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
I am an heir of God’s family (Romans 8:17)
“Now if we are children, then we are heirs — heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory.”
I am a friend of God (John 15:15)
“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from My Father I have made known to you.”
I am God’s delight (Zephaniah 3:17)
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
